The Influence of Reserpine on the Gastric Secretion and Total Acidity of Rats to Catecholamine

Abstract
In order to investigate the influence of reserpine of the gastric secretion, pH and total acidity of gastric juice induced by catecholamine in rats, the volume of gastric secretion, pH and total acidity of gastric juice of rats treated with reserpine 2 mg/kg, 24 hours and reserpine 1 mg/kg once a day for 3 days prior to experiment respectively, were compared with those of isoproterenol and norepinephrine.
The results were obtained as follows;
1. The gastric secretion of rats were markedly decreased by isoproterenol, but there were no significant changes by norepinephrine compared with control group.
The pH was markedly increased, but the total acidity was markedly decreased in the group treated with isoproterenol or norepinephrine.
2. The gastric secretion of rats pretreated with reserpine 2 mg/kg 24 hours prior to experimet was markedly increased, but the total acidity was slightly decreased. The gastric secretion of rats pretreated with reserpine 1 mg/kg once a day for 3 days was slightly decreased. The total acidity of gastric juice of those rats were markedly decreased and pH was slightly increased.
3. The effect of isoproterenol on the gastric secretion and pH of gastric juice in rats pretreated with reserpine 2 mg/kg and 1 mg/kg once a day for 3 days were increased, but the total acidity of gastric juice was markedly decreased.
The effect of norepinephrine on the gastric secretion and total acidity of gastric juice in rats pretreated with reserpine 2 mg/kg and 1 mg/kg once a day for 3 days were slightly decreased, but pH of gastric juice was no significantly changed.
